Aberdeen City Guide

Aberdeen is well known as it is Scotland’s third largest city by population and is one of Scotland’s 32 local government council areas. The estimated population of Aberdeen is 210,400. The city of Aberdeen is known by many different names such as The Grey City, Granite City, Oil Capital of Europe, Energy Capital of Europe, and even the Silver City with the Golden Sands.

Aberdeen has two different universities which are the University of Aberdeen and the Robert Gordon University. These two universities make Aberdeen an educational epi-center of the area. In addition to being a place where people come to for education it is also an important area for many different industries such as paper making, ship building, textiles, and even the oil industry.

Aberdeen is a great place for tourists as there are many things to see and do. There are plenty of pubs, clubs, and bars, especially those on Belmont Street, that are known for their live music and entertainment that exhibit the local flavor beautifully. There are also opportunities to take in performing arts at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, the Aberdeen Jazz Festival, and the literature festival. There are also plenty of museums and galleries to take in while in the area such as the Aberdeen Maritime Museum, the Provost Ross’ House, and even the Marischal Museum.

Being on the water there are also plenty of outdoor adventures to enjoy in the Aberdeen area. You might want to check out the Union Terrace Gardens, the Duthie Park Winter Gardens, or even Aberdeen beach where you can enjoy the great outdoors. There are so many different outdoor sites to see that in any direction you drive you are able to find somewhere to spend your time where you can enjoy the fresh air, cool breezes, and sunshine.
