Bath City Guide

Bath is a city that is located in the county of summerset, which is located in the southwest portion of England. The city is located about 97 smiles west of London and 13 miles southeast of Bristol. Bath has a population of 83, 992 and was recognized as a city starting in 1590 when Queen Elizabeth I granted city status. Bath is interesting as it was originally made a borough in 1889 which allowed for it to be independent of the county of Somerset. Then, the city became a part of Avon when the county was created in 1974, but it has since been abolished and now Bath is the center of the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset.

Bath has be a popular place to visit since the 18th century, where the more fashionable people were known to live in and frequent Bath. During the 18th century the Theatre Royal was built, as were The Circus, and the Pulteney Bridge. Today the city has give theaters and attracts international companies and directors. The city is home to many shows as well as concerts, as Bath Abbey is a large concert venue that hosts about 20 concerts per year. The city also hosts the Bath International Music Festival and Mozartfest each year. There are also literature festivals and beer festivals, so the city really is a place for culture and entertainment, attracting thousands of tourists each year.

Bath is also home to the Victoria Art Gallery, the Museum of East Asian Art, and the Holburne Museum of Art as well as smaller galleries and antique shops. In addition there are countless museums associated with fashion, astronomy, the postal system, and more so there is plenty to do and see from a cultural perspective in the city of Bath. More than 3.8 million visitors enjoy what Bath ahs to offer every day, making tourism one of the city’s principle industries.
