Bracknell City Guide |
Located in the Bracknell Forest borough of Berkshire England is a town by the name of Bracknell. The town is located about 11 miles to the south of Reading and nine miles to the southwest of Windsor and is just 33 miles west of London. Bracknell is a beautiful little town that is embraced on the south and the east by the Swinley Woods as the Crowthorne Woods.
The town of Bracknell encompasses some very old buildings and land. In fact, one of the oldest buildings in the town is the Old Manor public house, which is a 17th century manor house that features priest holes. It is buildings like this that allows for the town to be seen by tourists from all around the world.
Bracknell was named a new town in 1949, but the Bracknell that is known and loved today is not the Bracknell of the past. Today Bracknell has absorbed some towns and villages that could not be sustained on its own. It has been thought that Bracknell, despite its quaint look and feel needs to be revitalized. The government decided it would be renovated and designs and plans were made and then accepted after a couple rounds of work. The renovations were set to begin in 2008 but as of yet have not taken place due to the global credit crisis, although the town says that the revitalization is still going to go through, to make Bracknell an even more lovely place to live and visit.
Despite the postponed improvements that Bracknell is looking forward to, business is as great as ever. There are many very successful companies located in Bracknell including Panasonic, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, and more! The most well known building in the town is the 3M building, which is more formally known as the Winchester House. It is a large, 12 story, structure that can be seen from more than a mile away.
