Canterbury is an interesting city because it is so old. In fact, the area has been lived in since prehistoric times with the first recorded settlement being a Celtic tribe that was located in most of the modern day Kent. This occupancy began in the first century AD and people have been living in the area since then. The area was long ruled by the Romans and then the Danish, so the land has seen a lot of struggle and transformation over the years.
Today Canterbury is a bustling city that has more than 4,500 businesses and more than 60,000 full and part time employees. In addition to being a place of booming business, there are many aspects of the city that draw in tourists from near and far. Some of the more well known landmarks to visit in Canterbury include but are not limited to the Canterbury Cathedral, the Canterbury Castle, as well as the Old Synagogue at Canterbury. These are some beautiful landmarks that are enjoyed by people of all ages and from all areas of the world.
For those that come for art, the Marlowe Theatre draws many to the area.
