Cheltenham is a spa town that is located in Gloucestershire, England. The town is also known as Cheltenham Spa as it is a spa town. The area has a decent population around 110,000, with the residents being known as Cheltonians. The area is known for being quite prestigious, although one downside to living in the area is that flooding is commonplace due to the River Chelt running through the town.
Cheltenham is perhaps most well known for being the home of the British steeplechase horse racing, with the Gold Cup being synonymous with the town. The Cheltenham Festival is a big draw for people near and far, which happens every March. Horse racing began in 1815, so the horse racing that is synonymous with the area is due long standing.
Cheltenham has been known as a spa town and a location for a holiday since 1716 when the mineral springs were first discovered. When people come to Cheltenham for the spas they usually also enjoy architecture as the Cheltenham Synagogue is very beautiful as are many of the other buildings in the area. The Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum is also a popular tourist attraction, as is the Holst Birthplace Museum.
The town is also very popular as many sports take place in and around the area. The town is very involved in hockey, rugby, and football so fans come from near and far to enjoy the games. The town is also known for different festivals which occur at different times of the year, so there is almost always a festival to enjoy. Cheltenham also has a bustling night life, which is a draw for those of all ages who are looking for a great holiday that will allow them to relax and unwind, leaving their cares behind.
