Bourton on the Water is a village that is located in the Gloucestershire, England. The village is located in the Cotswolds area and is often called the Venice of the Cotwolds. The reason for this nickname is the bridge spanned stream that winds its way through the village of Bourton on the Water.
Bourton on the Water is a very popular tourist village in England. Some of the more popular tourist attractions include the model village. This is a replica of the village that was built in the 1930’s. In addition there is a model railway that attracts and interests many. These replicas and models are 1:9 scale and simply very interesting to take in.
The River Windrush is also very attractive to those that are new to the area or those that are visiting. The River Windrush is spanned by footbridges and even a small road that make them very quaint and interesting. In the winter months spectators may be able to take in a game of medieval football where the goal posts are actually placed in the river itself! This is a huge tourist draw every winter! The park features a varied assortment of birds including parrots, passerine, and penguins. Tourists may also enjoy taking in the Dragonfly Maze while in the area. Many tourists are taken with the large farmers’ market that takes place on the fourth Sunday of every month where all of the region’s fresh produce is put up for sale. |
