Area information
The old market town has a good deal to offer, a wealth of half timbered Tudor buildings, brilliant Georgian houses, a splendid river, beautiful gardens and narrow winding streets. There is lots to see in Shrewsbury including several museums, the castle and well-known Abbey. Organised daily tours (in summer) are available with official guides to explain the history of the town.
Shopping in Shrewsbury is well served. As well as most of the big multiples there are antiques and secondhand bookshops, boutiques, a craft market and Victorian Arcade; most of them in narrow side streets and passageways. We also have one of the best wine merchants in the country.
Travel information
Shropshire Railway Stations are positioned at Shrewsbury, Telford, Wellington, Albrighton, Cosford, Shifnal, Wem, Whitchurch, Oswestry (Gobowen), Welshpool, Ludlow, Church Stretton and Craven Arms.
Timetables for train and bus services can be obtained from local tourist information centres.
A series of seasonal, rural shuttle bus services now operate in Shropshire, offering "green" routes to the more remote villages and attractions. The 2007 shuttle bus season will run at weekends and bank holidays from 7th April to 28th October inclusive.
