Area information
Just 4 miles away from Lake Ullswater, Penrith is the hub of the Eden Valley and the gateway to the Lake District. It is an interesting shopping centre with a good mix of traditional shops and sophisticated arcades where such items such as famed Penrith toffee and fudge, traditional Cumberland sausage and intriguing work of local artists and crafts people, are to be found.
The Tuesday market is just one of the many activities Penrith offers all year round. In May it is home to the May Day Gala Parade, in June the ever popular Appleby Horse Fair is held and in August the Agricultural Show, Lowther Show and Pottery Festival attracts many visitors.
Once the capital of Cumbria and the trading link between north and south, Penrith still maintains excellent transport links via the train station and nearby M6 motorway.
