Area information
Positioned at the entrance to the cathedral green and just metres away from the ancient marketplace, the hotel accommodation is in a great position for exploring historic Wells and all of the points of interest and areas of natural beauty in the surrounding regions.
Wells is the smallest city in England, with a population of just over 11,000. The city is set in the foothills of the Mendips, with the Somerset Levels and Moors to the south. Wells’ Cathedral is probably one of the finest examples of a gothic cathedral anywhere in Europe. With Vicars'' Close and the Bishop''s Palace and its moat next door, the cathedral is a great place for a memorable visit.
The well-known Wookey Hole Caves are situated on the outskirts of Wells. The caves were once owned by Madame Tussaud’s and the caverns themselves are breathtaking. Guided tours are available and the site also boasts the oldest working paper mill in Britain and a marvellous 19th century penny arcade.
The spectacular Cheddar Gorge, with its caves and wonderful walks, is an attraction in itself. Owned by the Marquis of Bath, the gorge offers a wealth of natural beauty and is well worth a visit.
