Doncaster is a town located in South Yorkshire, England. The town is the largest settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster and is located 20 miles from Sheffield. The town is known as Donny by locals. The town is known as a education city, having undergone a redevelopment that is the only educational investment of its kind in the United Kingdom. Doncaster is not only known as the epicenter of education in the United Kingdom, but also a great place to shop.
Doncaster has a population of about 70,000 but the population of the bigger metropolitan area is closer to 300,000. Doncaster is the 15th most populated area in the United Kingdom outside of the London area. The area saw its height of population shortly after the development of coal mining, although the populations dwindled a bit and in the 1980’s when the coal mines closed.
Doncaster boasts a temperate climate, which allows for residents to see all four seasons. The average temperature in the summer months is about 70 degrees Fahrenheit with the winter average temperatures being 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Winters are usually the wettest and windiest months in this region. The area features many different landmarks to see and enjoy and sports and entertainment are always big in the area with a focus being on rugby and football.
