Dover City Guide

Dover is a town located in Kent, which is located in South East England. The town of Dover is also a principal ferry port. Dover looks in the direction of France across the English Channel, although it looks across the English Channel at one of the most narrow parts. The town is found south and east of Canterbury, west of Maidstone, and north and east of Dungeness and Hastings. Dover serves as the administrative center of the Dover District.

Dover is relatively well known in England because of its geography. It is located in an area where it is surrounded by chalk cliffs and where the Channel tunnel hits land. The area is where people come and go to Britain and has been settled in since the Stone Age, according to some archeological findings.

Dover is important to Britain because of where it is found geographically. This is a place that many people come to when they are visiting or when they are moving to the area, so it is an important port area for the country. It is an ideal port area as it is sheltered from winds. The region has an oceanic climate that is not unlike most of England and the United Kingdom. The oceanic climate boasts moderate year around temperatures with light precipitation each month instead of very warm or cool temperatures with months where a lot of precipitation is experienced.

As far as culture goes, the port status of the Dover makes up most of the culture, although there are a couple museums for tourists to enjoy. The Dover Museum will interest those who enjoy history of English towns. For those that want to learn more about the history of transportation in Dover, the Dover Transport Museum is also a great way to spend an afternoon.

Locals enjoy many sports and The Vista Leisure Centre is where most sporting related activities take place. The most commonly played sports in the area include but are not limited to football, rugby, rowing, swimming, and netball. Swimming in the English Channel is a highly publicized event but sea fishing, and visiting the beaches is a favorite past time of residents and is often enjoyed by tourists.
