King's Lynn City Guide

King’s Lynn is a town located in Norfolk, England. The town has been known by many names such as Bishop’s Lynn, Lynn Regis, and locally it is just known as Lynn. The word Lynn actually is a Celtic word that means lake. The town is also a port.

King’s Lynn is known by many, as it is a larger settlement, in fact it is the third largest settlement found in Norfolk. The town is just six miles away from the Norfolk residence of the British Royal family and was also the birth place of a famous Royal Navy officer, George Vancouver. Another piece of interesting history is that Norfolk is where Diana Princess of Wales first attended school when she was younger.

King’s Lynn is all about industry and here the industry and fishing and seafood, most notably inshore prawns, shrimp, and cockles. The area has also been known for glass making and glass works as well as engineering. Today King’s Lynn has also become home to many different food processing and chemical factories that employ a good number of the residents of this small town.

Kings Lynn hosts two different festivals each summer. The King’s Lynn Festival and the Festival Two are the two different festivals that residents attend each year. The Festival Two is a free musical festival that takes place in Tuesday Market Place and is known to attract crowds of more than 10,000. The King’s Lynn Festival is also a musical festival but is one of classical music and occurs throughout the town, attracting those who enjoy the music of orchestras, the sound of opera, and of course the sight of stage plays. Other than the festivals, King’s Lynn is your typical quiet, European town that enjoys beautiful scenery and an unassuming every day life of the typical resident.
