Leeds is a city that is located in West Yorkshire, England. The city is quite large with a population around 450,000 while the population of the city and the surrounding suburban areas is closer to 800,000. Leeds is considered the fastest growing city in the United Kingdom and when you visit you will find that this is a city that is both new and old, a place where everyone can find their place, which only attracts more people.
Leeds is an older city with its history being traced back as far back as the 5th century. The city has been known for many things through the years such as wool production in the 17th and 18th centuries and then it was known as an industrial center from there on out. Today the city is known for its production and industries related to flax, iron foundries, printing, wool, and engineering. Today Leeds is thought to be the center for cultural, financial, and commercial industries of the greater West Yorkshire Urban Area that has a population of almost two million.
Leeds has many different landmarks to take note of when you are in the city. There are natural landmarks that will not be found anywhere else in the world such as the grit stone outcrop of Otley chevin and the RSPB reserve. Other natural landmarks that are enjoyable are Roundhay Park as well as Temple Newsman Park, Victoria Gardens, Leeds City Square, and Millennium Square. There are also beautiful buildings and such to see such as the Leeds Town Hall, the Corn Exchange, the War Memorial, Leeds City Museum, and Civic Hall. When you are in Leeds you will be at no loss of things to look at as there are new buildings, old buildings, and then there will be beautifully maintained open space that makes you forget that you are in a city at all.
