Lincoln City Guide

Lincoln is a city, cathedral city, county town of Lincolnshire, England. The city of Lincoln has a population of about 90,000 but the greater Lincoln area has a population of about 121,000. Lincoln dates back to the Iron Age as there were dwellings that were found to date back to this time. The dwellings were found in 1972 but have been dated back to the 1st Century BC.

Tourism is what keeps this city afloat and has been for some time. The city of Lincoln truly is a tourist center as it is home to many historic buildings and specialty shops that have a big draw. Some of the more popular sites include but are not limited to the Lincoln Cathedral, the Lincoln Castle, the Medieval Bishop’s Palace and many of the shops located in Steep Hill and Bailgate. The Collection is also a popular attraction as it contains more than two million objects.

There are other places to see and things to do when in Lincoln. The Museum of Lincolnshire Life is always popular as is The Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory, and the Whisby Nature Reserve. If you are looking for more entertainment Waddington airfield is always a safe bet, as is the Scampton airfield, and the Cadwell Park which features motor racing.

Most tourists visit the city during the summer months. The reason for this popular tourist time is the weather is the nicest during this time. Another time when tourists flock to the city of Lincoln is during the second weekend of December. This is when the annual Christmas Market is held in the Bailgate area. The market is a tradition and is of German style and simply so much fun to attend. People from all over the area attend as a matter of tradition and also to buy gifts for everyone on their Christmas list.
