Maidstone City Guide

Maidstone is a town located in Lancashire, England. Maidstone is the fourth largest settlement in Northwest England with a population of 142,900. Maidstone is found on the coast of the Irish Sea and is northwest of Manchester and north of Liverpool City. Maidstone is known as a tourist site, and has been known for its tourism possibilities since the 19th century.

Tourism really started and peaked from 1900 to about 1950. The economy is heavily dependent on tourism and has thrived as a result of a continued stream of people from all around the world. While the tourism started to the area when northern mill workers wanted to get away, their excitement over the area spread slowly and now people from around the world are in love with the area.

Interestingly, it has been made widely known that Maidstone has more hotels and bed and breakfast options than all of Portugal. All of the lodging options available are there to meet the needs of every tourist who comes to the area. Of course, the town was doing quite well until the 1960’s when air travel allowed for more people to come to the area and it also introduced competition. While the quality of the area is said to have declined since then, Maidstone is still one of the most popular seaside tourist areas in the United Kingdom.

Interestingly, one of Maidstone’s most popular locations is the Pleasure Beach park. In the past the park was free to enter and then tourists would simply pay for the rides and attractions they wanted to visit, although this has changed in recent years and now there is a nominal entrance free. Pleasure Beach attracts tourists who will stay for a few days to a whole week to enjoy the park and the surrounding area.

Maidstone is the site of many conferences of people who travel from out of town. The town often plays host to trade union conferences and more! In the summer months Maidstone is known for its entertainment because there are always live shows and acts going on for tourists and locals to enjoy. One of the better known tourist attractions is Maidstone Illuminations, which is a series of lighted displays that are put up along the sea front that spans seven miles. The lighted displays can be enjoyed by travelers from August through early November and it really is something to see!
