Nottingham City Guide |
Nottingham is a city that is located in the East Midlands, England. While Nottingham may not be as well known by tourist as other cities in England, it has a population of more than 71,000 with more than 100,000 living in the greater Nottingham area.
Originally Nottingham was a Roman settlement, which is true for many of the cities and towns that are found in this region of England. While it was originally a Roman settlement, today this city is a very average English city that has suburban as well as more city like settlements. Today Nottingham is a very industry driven area and has been since the 19h and early 20th century. The area is home to many engineering firms, manufacturers of food, and textile mills. Nottingham is also a major hub for the railway, with more than seven different companies using the Nottingham Citadel railway station.
Sports are important to Nottingham and this could not be any more obvious than with the local football team, Nottingham United. Football is not the only sport though, rugby is also very popular. The team used to be Nottingham RLFC but then they merged with Barrow and left Nottingham. While there is not currently a rugby team in the city the sport is still closely followed.
Today Nottingham is a very common English town. Most of the resident’s worth within or around Nottingham in many of the industries that are found in the area. The area has long been known for a curse that is associated with a stone that was long ago added to the area. Today the curse is more legend than believed in, but some people still don’t like the idea of living in Nottingham for just this reason!
