Oxford City Guide |
Oxford is a city that is located in South East England. The city has a population of 165,000. The town is surrounded by many smaller towns and villages that make Oxford seem larger than it is in both land and population. This is a modern town though, attracting people who work in the financial sector of London.
Oxford is popular due in large part to its proximity to London. Many people like the town because it allows for them to get away from the city but also be close enough that they do not have to travel long distances. Some of the employers in the area have closed down, which has slowed the growth of the city somewhat, but new homes are still being built and others are still moving to the city.
Oxford is one of the warmer areas in the United Kingdom, especially during the summer months. In addition to being warmer, it also gets less rain and moisture from others. Temperatures reach around 85 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and this is also when the area gets the most rain, although they are usually just afternoon showers. Snow is not common even in the winter months as the temperature rarely drops and stays below the freezing point.
The town is a draw for cricket fats as the Essex County Cricket Club calls Oxford its home. This is also the home of the Oxford City Football Club, and also the home of the hockey club. The bottom line is that the town is very sports oriented and will draw people for this reason alone. If it’s not sports that draws people to the area it is the V Festival that takes place every penultimate weekend in August. This festival is a tradition that has been taking place since 1996.
