Plymouth City Guide |
Plymouth is a city as well as a unitary authority area that is located in England. The city is located on the coast of Devon and is about 190 miles west of London. The city is built between the mouths of two rivers which are Plym and Tamar, which join together at Plymouth Sound.
Plymouth has a long history that actually dates back to the Bronze Age. The area was first settled during this time and was known as Mount Batten. The settlement grew and became a trading center for the Roman Empire.
Plymouth has a temperate climate. Plymouth usually experiences more precipitation than the rest of England and it is also a bit cooler than the rest of England. The warmest months are July and August and the coolest months are January and February.
There are many things to see and do when you are in Plymouth. There are many outdoor festivals and events to take part in, including but not limited to the British Firework Championships. This event takes place in August and attracts thousands of people. Other places of interest include the Theatre Royal, The Drum Theatre, and the Plymouth Pavilions. The Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is also of interest to a great many people.
The city of Plymouth is currently undergoing a facelift. By 2020 the city will look and feel a whole lot different than it does today. The plans are to continue to make this a place where people come not only to work, but also to play. The idea is to make the city much more easily navigated by those who live in the area as well as those who are just passing through. Shopping, new businesses, and other tourist friendly businesses are encouraged to come get in on the new plan to make Plymouth a place that people want to see and visit well into the future.
