Reading City Guide

Reading is a town located in England. The own is found where the River Thames and the River Kennet come together. The town is also located conveniently on the Great Western Main Line railway as well as the M4 motorway, which is just 40 miles west of London. While reading is not well known by the world today, it was significant in its history as it was the home of a monastery that had connections to royalty. Today the town may not be well known by people around the world, but it is still a commercial center that has big industries such as information technology and even insurance. Reading is also home to two universities.

Reading was first established in the 8th century, although then it was known as Readingum. The name means Reada’s People in old English. Today the town of Reading is a grouping of many different suburbs or other districts. The town has many churches as well as several museums, all of which feature beautiful architecture. The town is well known for the Reading Town hall and row houses that are beautifully built and maintained, giving the town a very polished look even though it is not very large.

There are many different companies that have moved into the area, making this a very technologically advanced town. The town has many different big businesses including but not limited to Microsoft and Oracle. The financial company known as ING Direct also has its headquarters here, so although the town is not big, it is home to many different businesses that ensure that the people here have jobs and the town will continue to thrive well into the future. There are also many retail businesses in the town, and many people from the surrounding suburbs actually come to Reading to do all of their shopping.
